Face: Procedures

Aging of the face is inevitable, and with time the skin of the face and neck loosen. Age, sun exposure, gravity, and genetics all contribute to skin changes. Fine lines become wrinkles, and gradually deeper folds. The jaw line softens into jowls, and beneath the chin excess skin starts to sag. As the aging population grows, it is no wonder why facelifting has become the third most common performed facial cosmetic procedure. The scars from the procedure are hidden in the hair and around the ears, so even men or women with short hair can have the procedure performed. Ancillary procedures, such as fat injections, can restore the soft, more rounded, features of youth, especially around the mouth and lips.

Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)

Droopy upper eyelids and puffy bags under the eyes can make you look older and more tired than you feel. "Blepharoplasty" or eyelid surgery is the most commonly performed facial plastic surgical procedure. By removing small amounts of excess skin and fat one can transform the eyelid region to a more youthful and refreshed look. The upper eyelid incision is hidden in the natural crease of the eyelid and is barely perceptible. The lower eyelid incision is so close to the lashes that it can barely be seen with the naked eye, even in men. This allows for the precise removal of excess skin. The entire procedure may be done under high power magnification. In addition, new techniques such as micro fat grafting help restore a youthful lid-cheek junction.

Rhinoplasty is performed to change the appearance of the nose to be more aesthetic and pleasing. Sometimes the hump is removed, usually the nose is thinned out at the tip and slightly elevated. It is usually necessary to narrow the nose at the time of surgery. The splint is removed by the 7th day and most people are presentable in approximately 7-10 days. The procedure may be done in the surgery center or the hospital, depending on personal preference and insurance coverage.

A forehead lift or "browlift" is a procedure that restores a more youthful, refreshed, and cheery look to the forehead, eye brows and upper eyelid areas. By removing excess skin and muscle, the procedure corrects drooping brows, improves the horizontal lines and furrows that can make you look angry, sad or tired, and tightening the skin of the upper eyelid. The incisions can be hidden in the hair and are almost impossible to see. The particular type of incision to be used is dependent on your goals and desires. Also, a forehead lift is often performed in conjunction with eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) or a facelift to provide a smoother, overall balanced look to the eyes and face.
